An Old Fashioned, New Hobby Store

The Hobbies Shop, located in Historic Downtown Charles town,  is a Family, Woman, and Veteran owned and operated business.  Walking into our shop gives our customers both young and old a chance to relive a previous time.  We never get tired of hearing people recite the stories of when they were young, and their local hobby store.  How the memories of wooden airplanes, plastic models, and model rockets inspire them to take their children and grandchildren out to have the same experiences. The Hobby Store has always been a focal point for families to plan and take part in multi-generational activities which are not just FUN but educational also.  This outlook on what a hobby store is, and should be is our reason for owning a hobby store and behind how we stock our hobby store.

We carry some of the most interesting products for all ages of people. From the young to the old, Artistic to Techie and all points in between.  Every item we carry can be transformed in to a lesson plan.  Physics, English, Art, Chemistry, Geometry, Mathematics, Algebra,  Spelling, Drama, Astronomy the opportunities are limitless.  There is nothing better than to do something with your family that is fun, entertaining, and educational.  Moment like that last a life-time.

My favorite memories from my childhood where helping my grandfather make birdhouses and sanding wood to paint. Fly Tying, carving poppers and painting them, learning to fly fish with my grandfather.  Memories with my dad were a lot different, he was a chemist and teacher, so it was model rocketry, photography, environmental sciences, gardening, rock collecting, bug collecting, I had a rock polisher and searched for precious stones to polish, of course in doing so I was able to identify different types of rocks and minerals.  Metal detecting was a huge part of my childhood.  I had a blast, especially when we when camping to use my metal detector.  I remember once in Wyoming I thought I hit the mother load, I found a very odd combination of items buried right on top of each other.

Hobby stores bring out memories, doing hobbies make memories.  We live in a world where we need to do things together as families and friends.  This is why I have a hobby store.

We have knowledgeable people available to help with questions, repairs, or training.

We can provide instructors for Painting, Rockets, Drones, Free Flight and model building when requested for local organizations.

We are here to support you.
